On Father's Day 2017 I bought my dad "7 Brief Lessons on Physics" by Carlo Rivelli. My sister, dad, and I read it aloud to each other, switching off chapters. It is astrophysics, written in simple terms for the public to understand, but the book is also poetic, romantic, and incredibly engaging. It reminds me so much of him, he is one of the smartest people I know, but is generous, hilarious, and relaxed - relieved of existential anxiety and the peril of being bound to the human realm that is so common in artists. He is a voracious reader and magnificent writer, but truly an expert at being a dad. "All you have to do is love your kid" he tells me, "it's not hard to love you."
